Egypt’s annual urban inflation rate surged to 15.2% in March 2026, up from 13.4% in February, according to data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

In a statement issued on Thursday, the agency said that monthly inflation accelerated to 3.3% in March, compared with 2.7% in February 2026.

Meanwhile, the annual inflation rate for Egypt as a whole reached 13.5% in March 2026, up from 11.5% in February.

A Reuters poll released on Tuesday indicated that Egypt’s annual urban inflation rate is expected to have increased to 14.7% in March, up from 13.4% in February, driven by the economic fallout from the war involving Iran, which has led to higher fuel prices and a weaker currency.

The median forecast was calculated based on the estimates of 16 analysts surveyed by Reuters on April 6 and 7.
