The Information and Decision Support Center - IDSC has denied claims circulating on social media that Egypt plans to stop issuing polymer banknotes of EGP 10 and EGP 20 and revert to printing the old paper versions.
In a statement published across its official platforms, the center said that, in coordination with the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), it was confirmed that no such decision has been issued.
The CBE affirmed that the issuance of polymer banknotes of EGP 10 and EGP 20 continues without interruption, and that these notes retain full legal tender status and are accepted for all payments of goods and services.
It added that both polymer and paper banknotes currently in circulation continue to be used side by side in the market.
The IDSC urged citizens not to circulate or rely on misleading information, stressing the importance of obtaining data only from official and verified sources.
